Description
Merkur's heavy duty double edge safety razor is very attractively styled with a hand-tooled, high-polish chrome finish. This solid and reliable grooming tool is heavier than other safety razors, for improved handling under extreme shaving conditions.
Please note that we do not accept returns of used razors.
Tips
To get the most out of your new razor, follow these tips:
- Throw away the free blade that comes with your razor. It's probably dull from constant movement inside the box.
- Hold the razor with your thumb and forefinger, directly underneath the razor head. That particular grip takes the place of a pivoting head and easily adjusts your razor to the contours of your face.
- Hold your razor at a thirty degree angle to your skin. That places the full face of the safety bar directly against your skin. This allows the razor blade to slice beard hair away with minimal (or no) irritation.
- Don't use long single strokes, as with cartridge razors; short repeated strokes work better.
- Expect a few minor nicks and scrapes for the first few days, while you get used to handling your new razor. After about a week, you'll be shaving like a pro.

A very solid and well made razor. It's small but heavier than you would expect. Comes with one razor blade as well. Easy to use only a few nicks the first time but after that I was shaving like a pro. Definitely shaves as close as the Mach 3 I was using but now I don't get ingrown hairs. Would recommend it for first time DE users.

First off, I didn't know the razor would be so tiny! It took me 15 minutes to shave my face (not my neck) the first time I used this, but my face felt really smooth. Take your time, and this thing will make you smooooooooth.

There is absolutely no comparison with the quality of shave (and lack of skin damage) you can get with this DE blade, versus a regular cartridge razor. I have always been plagued with skin irritation using cartridge razors, and finally, out of desparation, I researched what else is available for shaving, and I stumbled onto DE razors - I had figured that it was obsolete technology, but was amazed to find everyone claiming that the shaves they got with the DE's was far better than anything you could ever expect from a cartridge razor. How right they were - my only regret is that I never knew about DE's 15 years ago.
This Merkur HD razor is a widespread favorite, with a good balance of agressiveness. Even if you find another holder works better, everyone says that you'll AT LEAST like the results from this holder. This is the first and last holder I'll ever buy - built like a tank, very maneuverable in tight spots (like under the nose), and irritation-free results. I'm very happy with this holder.

Fantastic. I have been using it for three weeks now and haven't been nicked once! Just be careful. I was worried that shaving would become an hour-long ordeal, but I am done in the usual 10 minutes. It does reduce the number of ingrowns, though I still have a few. It doesn't get all that close, unless you go with the grain followed by across the grain - but I don't like the feeling of super close shaves, so I just do the once over. And, yes, you do feel more like a man when using it. Get one.

Awesome razor! I used to have to shave every other day due to irritation with my four blade POS. I can use this every day and it feels great. Very easy to use! Shaving was a chore, now it's a joy.

I have been using this razor for about a year now, and after the learning curve as stated in the other reviews, this is a great razor. However, about a week ago I tried my Gillette Fusion (5 Blade Razor), and I have to say the Fusion gives a much better shave than the Merkur HD Razor. The Merkur doesn't provide as close of a shave, and it is a lot easier to cut or nick yourself with it. The Gillette provides a much easier, closer shave with minimal shave time. The only reason I would recommend the Merkur is if you don't have a heavy beard, and suffer from ingrown hairs, razor bumps, etc. The Merkur does however provide a fun old world shaving experience that you don't get from shaving with a Gillette multi-blade.

This review will be short because I have yet to try another DE razor to compare it with. However, I could tell you that the Merkur HD DE razor is a quality precision instrument as soon as I took it out of the box.
I like the fact that there is a total of three pieces, making cleaning it a simple task. It's the perfect razor for the beginner , combining quality and cost efficiency.
