To return to what actually works is a great feeling. I went from double to triple blades with bumps as my gift. I moved on to an electric razor that was actually pretty good, however, it took forever to shave and my face was always irritated. Also the electric razor had difficulty with two areas on my face so I would have to use the trimmer attachement. Finally I decided to go back to the "original". It is a great shave, and you feel as if you're truly using a well crafted device. I have used it to shave against the direction of the hair growth and the blade does not irritate my face. The razor bumps are fewer, in fact, as I look now I do not see any. The soap is great and it seems as if I will save money on shaving creams and razor blades. You can finally feel like men again and not use the exact same blades as our wives and girlfriends may use for their legs! For men only!!

I pieced together this set and it cost me a little more, but each of the pieces is well worth the cost. Granted, a shaving bowl can be anything from a mug to a pewter-looking thing like in this set. The Futur razor and brush complement each other nicely and the stand holds everything neatly. If you have any questions, check the reviews of the razor and brush -- they're both excellent.

Absolutely amazing. The quality, the experience, the finished product(my face). Indeed, I had no idea what I was missing during the 15 or so years I was shaving with disposables.
The razor is a bit unwieldy at first and there is a bit of a learning curve, but, once you master it, there is no comparison. Trust me, you will receive rave reviews from your wife\girlfriend. The smoothest, longest lasting shave, ever, awaits you.
Value: the blades are quite inexpensive and last at least twice as long as the disposables. While this is quite a steep initial investment, this razor will truly last a lifetime. That, coupled with the extremely low blade cost, means this is a better value in the long run.
Odd as it may sound, you just plain feel more "like a man" shaving with this product. So don't hesitate, just get it!

I finally received this set as a gift (just not in the student budget) after wanting it for about a year. It's quite possibly the Porsche of razors. A collaboration of form and function. I decided to get one after realizing how much money I was wasting away on cartidge blades. The blades seem to last me about two weeks of daily shaving, and even then I don't really feel the need to change the blade. The shave is amazing, and I actually look forward to shaving each day even after the novelty wore off. Now, if only I can convince the rest of my mid-twentys friends to buy one. Yeah, it sounds expensive, but really when you do the math, it's only about a years worth of Fusion cartidge bades. It's better for the environment and you know you want one, so just order it already.

I kept it dialed down to the lowest setting, and did full prep work with the brush and lather, and had no trouble my first shave. A lot of talk on the boards and in reviews can scare you off of this razor which is not only better, but potentially cheaper (per shave) than just about anything else out there.
The brush is very soft, seems to be good quality. The razor for sure is very well made. The finish on the set is suspect, and it looks like it will flake away over time, but for now, it looks great, and doesn't get too slippery when wet.
Sometimes I wonder if this razor would work as well with normal canned shaving cream, or if lathered shaving cream would work as well with a cheap twin blade disposable.....

I have curly hair and have had trouble with ingrowns and bumps for years. I finally treated myself to this set, with the intention of diving head-first into wet shaving and so-far-so-great. It all takes a little practice, from building a lather (I got the Truffett & Hill cream), to feeling out the blade angle and strokes, but the results speak them themselves. After the first shaves, my neck is already smoother than it's ever been. I still have to do 3 passes to clean up my jawline, but I know this will get better; and I've only knicked my nose while trying to angle in on my upper lip (the large head makes this difficult). I don't know about enjoying the shave itself, but the brush lathering is relaxing.

Amazing collection of products, and well worth the money. I got this set as a gift from my wife for my birthday, and could not have asked for anything better. I have been a wetshaver since 1.5 years and have been using an old Gillette DE razor with a bristle brush and either Williams or Wilkinson Sword soap, but most of the time end up getting minor nicks and cuts.
I applied the Proraso pre-shave formula followed by the rich lather created by the badger brush and Proraso shave cream. Using a setting of 1.5 on the Futur, I began the "first shave" with Merkur blades. The razor just effortlessly moved over my face in the first pass (N-S). In the second pass (S-N), it took off anything that was left behind after the first pass. After splash of cold water, and I could not feel a bit of stubble, and the area over my upper lip (that always stayed dark after the closest of shaves) was as bright as my cheek! Havent seen that since I was in puberty! I did not get a single nick, and as a result, I am planning to be more aggressive next time and go to a setting of 3.
Only negative comment I have is the bowl. The new sets contain glass bowls which look great, but I found it a bit shallow with the lather that I was generating spilling out a lot. Also, I plan to keep the set for a long time, so a pewter bowl as shown in the picture would have been better. Also, I dip the brush in hot water before the shave which caused the brush handle to become a little too hot to handle and I had to wrap a napkin around it. A very minor issue, and I anyway plan on using a little less-hot water next time so should be ok.
In summary, an amazing collection of products!

After doing a bit of research on the different brushes, razors, and stands that were available, I finally decided on this merkur set. This was the best of all worlds, in terms of razor quality, brush quality, build quality, looks, and space. I have owned mine for about a year, and am both very happy and impressed. The brush is very well made, and works as well as it did the first time I used it. The razor speaks for itself; its the best razor out there. The shave cup is very nice and perfect to hold your shaving soap. By the way, although its not listed, my merkur set came with colonel conk shaving shaving soap, which I love! This great shaving set fits nicely in a small space on your bathroom's sink, and the stainless steel finish gives its a beautiful finish. Overall, you cannot beat this razor set. Definitely a 4 star product.
