This product is certainly better than soapy water. If used with a decent brush, a healthy amount of lather is produced. You just have to get the cream to water ratio right. I would say this falls behind English creams for some of the luxuriousness of feel and scent (it is a faint Peppermint smell, like the moisturizer), but does stand on its own. I would consider this for a travel product.

Looks, smells, & performs like nothing more than soapy water.

I would say that it's a step above soap and water, but it's a step below a good creme. It doesn't seem to moisturize like it should and doesn't soften the beard enough to even notice. I wouldn't even try to use it without a brush, so overall, look for a sample size before buying the standard package.
